Due to its structural diversity, North Rhine-Westphalia not only offers an enormous treasure trove of imaginable locations. The federal state's ideal media infrastructure and its very good network also facilitate invaluable advantages in logistics and execution. Locations for Maren Ades "TONI ERDMANN",Historical facades for Stephen Daldry's THE READER, a gloomy forest for Lars von Trier's ANTICHRIST, industry chic for Ari Folman's THE CONGRESS, a historical coal-miners' housing estate for Sönke Wortmann's THE MIRACLE OF BERNE, 70's buildings and racing tracks for Ron Howard's RUSH, royal backdrop for Pablo Larrains „Spencer“, airports for Andreas Dresens „Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush, Ruhr Area backdrop for Tom Tkywers / Achim von Borries, Henrik Handloegtens „Babylon Berlin“ and Francis Lawrences „The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the tallest studios in Europe for Philipp Stölzl's THE PHYSICIAN and Vasilis Katsoupis „Inside“ : large international cinema productions, in particular, have also successfully profited from the range of possibilities in NRW in recent years. The Film Commission NRW was found 1999 by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW in order to create a contact partner for producers who whished to set their films in NRW. It negotiates contacts to location scouts and to competent partners in the municipalities. In addition, it provides help with permission to shoot, offers advice on how to find studios and technical service providers. In collaboration with location scouts and the network of film cities the Film Commission has set up an data base of motifs, which offers also a “green production guide”.
