Bremen connects tradition and modernity Bremen is the smallest of the 16 German federal states and comprises the two cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. However, with about 570,000 inhabitants, Bremen ranks among the ten largest cities in Germany. Besides the impressive architecture of the Weser renaissance, the historical Schnoor district, and an impressive town hall, Bremen has both urban and modern characteristics: all around the airport and the technology park, in the “Überseestadt” and in the student quarter known as “Das Viertel”, the city pulsates. Bremerhaven is located 60 kilometres further north on the North Sea coast. Huge container terminals, shipyards, and a fishing industry are in close proximity to the city centre. The “Havenwelten” are a special attraction: the “Klimahaus”, the “Atlantic Hotel Sail City”, the zoo on the sea, the German Emigration Centre, and the small traditional harbour form a fascinating ensemble. Bremen and Bremerhaven offer ideal settings for filmmakers, not least because they can profit from the famous “short routes”: from the short distances between film locations, production office, and hotels etc. on the one hand to the unbureaucratic contact to authorities, service providers and contact partners on the other.
