  • Filming in the heart of Europe

Filmmakers will be pleased to find a great variety of attractive and unspoilt motifs and locations all throughout Saarland. Not only does this region bear impressive marks reminiscent of extraordinary historical periods and exceptional developments in industry and urbanisation, but it will also quite simply charm visitors with its delightful landscapes. The extraordinary atmosphere of the region is due to the proximity to France (Lorraine) and Luxemburg.

Short distances and a modern infrastructure make getting around and reaching different locations in Saarland as easy and comfortable as can be. As far as renting locations, securing accommodations, or hiring a catering company for teams and crews, filmmakers will find great value for their (producers’) money.

Saarland is situated in the very heart of Europe. Planes, trains, and automobiles allow you to easily access this area.

  • World Cultural Heritage

World Cultural HeritageAs the world’s only preserved iron smelting plant from the heyday of the iron and steel industry, the Völklinger Hütte (Völklingen Ironworks) was placed on the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 1994. Often referred to as a cathedral of work and an icon of industrial culture, the Völklingen Ironworks can indeed be considered the principal headquarters of industrial culture in Europe today.

  • Nature at its best

Nature at its bestOn its way up north, right after having passed the town of Merzig, the Saar river meanders around the western spur of the Hunsrück mountain range. The Saar has carved itself into the rock and created beautiful, impressive natural scenery: the Saarschleife (literally Saar Bend) is probably the Saarland’s most widely recognised landmark.

  • Futuristic architecture

Futuristic architectureThe Europe 1 long-wave transmitter is located in Felsberg directly on the French border. Because of its unusual architecture the transmitter building has been classified as a historical monument: built between 1952 and 1954, the self-supporting hall is a prestressed concrete construction boasting an arched roof and a vitrified outer surface.
